About the Painting
If your ear is trained for the call of the cardinal, your eyes will follow their song and reveal their location. Often the calls are shared between partners, checking in on one another. Here we see a female cardinal, her colours make her the more camouflaged of the pair. She is patiently waiting for her partner to arrive. The cardinal and foliage are layered in neutral browns, creams and subtle yellow. These earthy tones are complemented by fine details of alizarin red, and a soft manganese blue background.
