About the Painting
Despite moose having a sizeable appearance they are a prey animal. Because of this, they tend to seek refuge in dense forest and thickets. These natural hiding places are their chosen sanctuaries. This is a female moose which is reflected in her delicate frame and soft head and face which are detailed in hues of sienna brown and slate grey. Tucked into dense birch trees and autumn brush, the moose appears calm while observing her environment. The comforting dusky magenta background lends to the feeling of safety and shelter.
