About the Painting
Here we see the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral in Scotland. The remains of this solemn stone structure appear poised despite the crumbling walls. Meticulously laid stones once came together to complete its stoic form, where people would share moments of prayer, hope, celebration and tears. The grey and somewhat dim quality of the stones are etched with years of wisdom, taking on an earthy and organic finish, as though they have come to life with age. Slate grey, ochre brown, and burnt sienna pigments lend a washed quality to the stones.
