About the Painting
Here we see an early piece, completed in 2011. The painting shows the initial experimentation with colour and texture that allowed him to develop his distinct style. This was the first painting of a mammal that I ever completed. Puffed up with a damp and disheveled winter coat, this red fox is at attention in its natural environment. The large pricked up ears and bright expression of the fox add to the feeling of innate focus. To honour the worn ochre orange winter fur, we see jagged and dense brush strokes detailing its petite frame.
